Just in time for Halloween, Michael Stelzner gives us four marketing lessons we can learn from Halloween.

These are all things we should all take away from the fun of the holiday and incorporate into our whole lives.

Have you noticed it?  The new trendy adjective?

Bespoke

It means goods, especially clothing, made to order. I’ve seen it describing a suit. Makes sense. And I’ve seen it describing a pizza, which makes sense given the definition, but not in the way it sounds if you say it out loud.

The word started out as a verb, which also makes sense as it means suggest or be evidence of or, archaically, speak to. However, I still don’t get the use as an adjective. And I don’t think I want to eat a bespoke pizza.

Found this blog today while paging through Technorati’s top 100 blogs.

Daily Blog Tips.  It’s got some great tips. I’ve started reading through the Writing Content category and am lovin’ every minute of it. Technorati is right…this is a top-notch blog.

Nothing like going on vacation to help see what is and isn’t important.  Like many of you, I get lots of email messages each day–either from clients or newsletters or marketing from sources I’ve requested.

In going through the email that arrived in my two-week absence, there were quite a few I simply deleted. From the subject line I could tell that they weren’t worth my time to read.

The good news about this was that I realized most of these sources send me at least one useful email every two weeks. And the couple of sources that didn’t are on my watch list. Maybe I can unsubscribe to a couple and help keep my inbox relevant.

You say it’s your birthday…

Happy birthday to Noah Webster the American lexicographer born on this day in 1758.

When you think of dictionaries, you think Webster.

Unless you’re a reference book wonk like me. In which case you also think of Samuel Johnson. But today isn’t his birthday.

Happy Columbus Day…

Today is a day to celebrate discoveries and voyages of all kinds.

Because you never really know where they’ll lead.
